General Skilled Visa
The General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program is the only path for skilled workers to migrate to Australia. Candidates must meet the basic requirements for GSM and pass the Australian Immigration points test to qualify. This category of Australia's Immigration (non-humanitarian) Program is specifically designed to encourage migrants possessing skills or abilities that will contribute to Australia’s economy.
This is the most common form of migration to Australia. You need to be under 45 years of age, possess good English skills and significant work experience and/or qualifications in skilled employment. Sponsorship by close family members who are Australian citizens or permanent residents will greatly assist the visa application.
Independent Skilled Migration Visa
Independent skilled migrants are people who have top job skills in occupations that are in high demand in Australia, particularly those with trade skills such as hairdressing, floor tiling or plumbing.
If migrants are unable to secure sponsorship, they can still migrate to Australia, as long as they possess job skills, qualifications and employment record. They will also need excellent English skills and be of a young working age. Complying with these requirements means that migrants will be able to settle into the Australian way of life and find work.
If your occupation is listed on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) you earn extra points towards your Independent Skilled Migration Visa.
